This small spoon is carved from rocky mountain maple that I harvested in Montana. It was created using only hand tools from start to finish. After sawing a small trunk from a robust cluster of maple, I cut and split a piece, then carved it to shape while green before finishing with sanding and some final knifework. When I started this piece I thought it would be straight, but the curved handle emerged along the way as a result of the tree’s unique character. Spoon carving is always a fun and surprising journey. Hand rubbed with Odie’s Oil for an all-natural, food-safe finish.
This little spoon is also carved from rocky mountain maple using only hand tools. After shaping the spoon green and allowing it to dry thoroughly, the bowl was sanded super smooth, while the handle was knife finished. This adds a subtle contrast of texture to the piece. Hand rubbed with Odie’s Oil for an all-natural, food-safe finish.
This unique spoon is hand carved from aspen wood. While driving along a dirt forest road in Montana, I came across a freshly fallen aspen tree. Luckily I had a saw and was able to harvest a branch. I carved it green to the rough shape, but couldn’t figure out the details, so I put it down. About a year later, I smoothed and shaped it to the final version you see now. I left some of the inner bark on the top side to provide texture and contrast. I love the knot on the end and the colors in the wood. This spoon is truly one of a kind. Hand rubbed with Odie’s Oil for an all-natural, food-safe finish.
This butter knife is hand carved from paper birch. I split the blank for it out of a log that was destined for firewood when I noticed the unique spalted coloring. After carving it to shape with a knife, I sanded to a high grit for a silky smooth feel. Hand rubbed with Odie’s Oil for an all-natural, food-safe finish.
These chopsticks are hand carved from black walnut. The chopstick rest and the ends of the chopsticks have burned details. Finished with a mixture of coconut oil and beeswax.
